About Porcelain and Ceramic
Porcelain was first developed in China approximately 2000 years ago. It’s a ceramic material made by heating materials in a kiln at between 1200 and 1400°C Its extremely strong and tough and generally impermeable, making it perfect for flooring.
The difference between Porcelain and Ceramic is in general, porcelain is harder than ceramic and tends to offer more choice in designs. Both are essentially made from clay fired in a kiln, the clay used to make porcelain however is more refined and purified meaning a much harder and durable product.
Modern Porcelain Floors come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colours. Often designed to resemble natural stone, many manufacturers have become masters in disguise, with no pattern repetition and flawless patterns they can fool even the most experienced floor experts. (We can tell though!)
Even though often impervious, Porcelain and Ceramic Tiles still hold the dirt due to the riven styles and textured finishes. The grout, essentially a sand and cement mix, soaks up spillages and dirty mop water too, and with light colours being ever so popular the grout can often be the biggest let down.

Our Cleaning Process
Porcelain is a fairly bulletproof material but can still be spoilt with bad practices. A polished porcelain for example wont react well to an acidic grout cleaner!
We assess the most effective and suitable solutions to deal with your floor. If grease is the main issue, or general dirt tracking in, different solutions and procedures are required to get the very best results.
Having determined the best solutions, we pre-treat an area of your floor, we then agitate the solutions deep into your tiles and grout lines, using a combination of our rotary’s, contra rotating brush machines and our specialist tile master machine. These steps ensure our solutions get deep into those problematic grout joints, whilst removing all surface dirt, grease and marks from your tiles.
The next step is to rinse the solutions off your floor, taking all the solutions and dirt with it whilst neutralising your floor. This is where we use our powerful van mounted extraction machine, we proceed to rinse your floor at around 800psi of pressure without making as much as a splash.
We then fully dry your floor by hand and with the use of air movers.
Sealing
Whilst most Porcelain floors are impervious, some do allow moisture in if left on the tile long enough, for example a spillage that goes unnoticed. Also the Grout on your floor will certainly be porous, and this alone is well worth sealing to prevent dirt ingress.
We use the best premium impregnating seals on the market. Being an impregnating sealer, they don’t sit on the top of your floor or grout, it actually soaks in to offer the best level of protection. Using an active compound resin, your tiles and grout are protected from dirt, grime and daily food spills with an invisible but breathable barrier.
Benefits of sealing your floor:
- Gives excellent protection against both oil and water based stains
- Laboratory certified as Safe for food preparation areas and worktops
- Protects and seals both indoor and outdoor surfaces
- Does not change the appearance of most surface types
- Aids maintenance and makes it easy to clean your floor
